Anybody else get a Droid Charge early?

Droid Charge at Target

It's the feel-good story of the year. Boy calls Target. Target has Droid Charge. Boy drives to Target, buys Droid Charge, but it won't activate. Target/Radio Shack dude does a little magic, and the Droid Charge is up and running.

And that's just one of many stories floating around the Android Central Forums -- the greatest Android Forums around, by the way.

We still don't know exactly when the Droid Charge will officially go on sale -- a Tuesday re-launch following last week's postponement due to an LTE outage seems to have fallen through. But handfuls of you are getting them. And that sort of thing makes us feel all warm and fuzzy.

The Anatomy of a Perfect Bank Heist: Smoke Bombs and Police Scanners [Crime]

Crime Magazine has a great excerpt from the upcoming book Wanted: Gentleman Bank Robber, recounting the time when infamous bank robber Leslie Ibsen Rogge knocked off two spots in a single day, making use of police scanners and smoke bombs in the process. More »

Allowing You to Become Even MORE of a Hermit

I actually saw one of these in action at my company and thought I’d share with others who are trapped in a cube farm just like in a bad Dilbert strip. It reminded me of a Shoji screen presented on all the chic home-improvement shows, but a Modular Privacy Wall is meant for The Office.  [...]

Shoot from the Hip with the Flipbac Angle Viewfinder

Do you ever get frustrated feeling like you miss the big picture because you always have your eye glued to a camera viewfinder?  If you have kids, does it seem all your photos show them at an angle, because using the viewfinder to frame the shot requires you to shoot downward (or lay on the [...]

Elephant Quest is an addictive, deep platformer

elephantquest
When someone tells me about a "platformer", my first thought is that it's probably a simple game that mainly revolves around running and jumping around, with a minimal plot. [Play a Zelda game! -Ed]

Elephant Quest is one platformer that managed to prove me completely wrong. Yes, you do run and jump around, and you also shoot at stuff. But the game has much, much more going for it.

Basically, as you run, jump and shoot, you gain experience points and level up. Hitting Space brings you into an interface where you can convert your experience points into Charisma, Intelligence, Agility and Dexterity points. Once you've "specialized" your points, you then get to pick what exact skills you'd like to enhance in each field. For example, you could use your dexterity to enhance your weapons or increase your swiftness.

The game is played in a huge maze; you go through rooms using doors, and there's a large map. As the name implies, there are quests you can take, too. For example, one quest had me searching all over the place for ten balloons.

The bottom line is that this is a surprisingly deep game that just might ensnare you for a good bit longer than you intended to play. Beware!

Rush Time Machine App for Apple iOS and Android Devices

I love Rush – the Canadian rock group, that is – and I was surprised to see that they have an app in the iTunes store.  With Rush Time Machine, you can get news, tour itinerary and ticket information, and information about places to stay near concert venues.  The Gear section lets you explore the [...]

Microsoft trumpets Windows Phone 7 numbers on first birthday

windows phone 7
Happy first birthday, Windows Phone 7! One year on, and the fledgling mobile operating system has 36,000 active developers in its AppHub community, 1.5 million downloads of its Developer Tools, and 11,500 apps in its Marketplace.

Microsoft is quick to take a couple shots at competitors' app stores, beating its chest about not re-counting tanslations of an app or "lite" apps, "increasing tonnage" by supporting apps from other mobile platforms, and not listing wallpapers as a category.

That's all fine and dandy, but we spend a lot of time sifting through WP7 app feeds -- and we're still not seeing a lot of awesome apps on the platform. We think a few marquee apps would've made a pretty nice first birthday present -- along with a much smoother update process for WP7 users.

Turtle Pens With ?Turtle Head? Technology

The Turtle Pen is worth a mention for its nib-retraction mechanism, dubbed the “Turtle Head”. And yes, that’s exactly what you think it is: the business end of the pen squeezes itself out through the tight sphincter that is the end of the pen’s barrel. Instead of pressing a button on the top of the pen, [...]
