A Kissing Mask Is Like Training Wheels for Make Out Sessions (NSFW) [Wtf]

On one hand, this kissing mask made by artist Didier Faustino forces you to make out at the exact distance, angle and open mouth to minimize slobber and maximize perfect form. On the other hand, it's, um, fucking ridiculous? More »

Microwave Warhead Is Non-Lethal, Unless You're a Robot [Weapons]

Incoming Secretary of Defense, Leon Panetta, said that the next Pearl Harbor could be a cyber-attack. Since our government is obviously inept when it comes to cybersecurity, we should probably stick to what we're good at: launching missiles. More »

If You Agree to a Social Media Background Check, Your Public Info Could Sit in an Unchanged File for 7 Years [Bad Ideas]

The Federal Trade Commission now allows companies who run background checks to compile and store seven years worth of publicly-available files and data from social networks and websites of the like. If you haven't yet privatized the information on your online accounts, you should. More »

Facebook about to launch their own ?app store?

There seem to be a lot of folks talking about a possible app-type development arena coming from Facebook. The NY Times wrote about it, sparking quite a buzz in Tech circles. No definite announcements have been made as of this writing, but sources think it’s pretty far along, having seen actual demos.

Sensor-Powered Pick Turns iPhone Into Air Guitar

The Air Guitar Move for iPhone is a guitar pick that plugs into your phone. Inside the pick is an accelerometer, so it knows just how hard you are thrashing. A pair of companion apps works with the accessory to actually give it some functionality.

PSX games now available in the Android Market, if you own an Xperia Play

PlayStation One games on the Android Market
If you're lucky enough to own an Xperia Play -- Sony Ericsson's new Gingerbread-powered smartphone-cum-gamepad -- you can now buy PlayStation (PSX) titles from the Android Market.

There are five titles currently available, all priced at £3.99: Syphon Filter, MediEvil, Cool Boarders 2, Destruction Derby, and Jumping Flash. They don't have an American price yet, but that will surely change once the Xperia Play launches in the States.

Two important questions remain unanswered: How big are these games? The Market descriptions say the games are only 5MB, but that sounds incredibly unlikely -- and more importantly, will it be possible to 'spoof' the Xperia Play and download PSX games onto other Gingerbread-powered phones, like the Nexus S?

In other news, the PlayStation emulator PSX4droid was recently removed from the Android Market. This obviously has nothing to do with today's release of first-party PlayStation games.

Sigma's fixed-lens DP2x reviewed: a 'quirky camera' that 'needs further development'

Most camera owners count low price, a versatile zoom lens, and HD video capture high on the priority list when searching for their next point-and-shoot, but Sigma's new DP2x falls short on all three counts, sporting an $800 price tag, fixed-length 24.2mm lens, and meager QVGA video. So why, then, did Sigma bother releasing an update to last year's DP1x? The camera's near-DSLR-size 14 megapixel Foveon X3 sensor is slightly redeeming, along with a sturdy body construction and full manual controls, according to a review on ePhotoZine, but negative bullet points like poor JPEGs, a magenta cast on images, and a slow response time leave us unimpressed. Sigma boasts of the cam's unique image sensor, which it claims stacks red, green, and blue layers for higher-quality images, but even there, poor low-light performance and 4.7 megapixel file output don't seem to make the tradeoff worthwhile. The site claims that the cam's lens is a solid-performer, however, with a fast f/2.8 aperture and an excellent manual focusing system. Overall, we don't appear to have a winner on our hands with the DP2x, but Sigma loyalists looking to stick with the seemingly overpriced, undervalued camera line can hit up the source link for the full review.

Gnonstop Gnomes Appear On iPhone And Android. Don?t Try To Stop Them.

The Gnonstop Gnomes are here and they cannot be stopped. Gnonstop Gnomes is the first mobile app to come out of Churn Labs, Omar Hamoui's product lab that he started after he left AdMob/Google. Hamoui demoed Gnonstop Gnomes at Disrupt NYC (see video below) and today the app is available both in iTunes and the Android Market. The app is a real-world social game and photo-sharing app. You create a Gnome, insert him in different pictures, and record his journey via GPS. The fun part starts when you pass your Gnome onto a friend. You do this with a new gesture Churn Labs invented called Lyft. Using your phone's camera lens, you can "lyft" a gnome from another screen to yours and help him continue his journey. Anyone who has touched a gnome can follow his adventures and photos as he moves around the world.

Samsung mocks Apple iPad with Galaxy Tab 10.1 commercial

Sometimes its wise to poke fun at another company?s product, with the desired outcome being increased brand recognition and sales of a specific device.  With Apple?s iPad sitting at the top of the tablet computing mountain, first Amazon tried the tactic with an advertisement mocking the iPad display, and now Samsung is mocking the iPad [...]
