HomePlug hasn't exactly struck it big on the home networking scene but, with so many disparate options (none of which play very nice together) it's not hard to see why. The Powerline Alliance is throwing its support behind a new IEEE standard, P1905, that may ease our consumer pain and make the outlet connectivity tech a better fit for our dungeons living rooms. The goal is to create a layer that sits atop the various wired and wireless hookups that blanket our homes and let them easily share data. Bridging the gap between HomePlug, HomePlug AV, Ethernet, WiFi, and MoCA is an ambitious task to tackle, but we've got faith our gadgets can get along.Continue reading HomePlug and IEEE want our home networks to play nice, talk to each other

According to unnamed sources, the HTC ChaCha may land on AT&T as the "Status." You know, like your Facebook status, seeing as how this is a "Facebook phone." Here's how we see that playing out:
Operator: "Thank you for calling AT&T. How may I help you?"
Customer: "Hi. I wanted to check on the status of my HTC Status order."
Operator: "Sure. I'll be happy to help you. Which HTC phone are you asking about?"
Customer: "The Status. The HTC Status."
Operator: "Sir, I'll need to know which HTC phone you want to know the status on. There are a lot of them."
Customer: "The phone's called the 'Status.' "
Operator: "Oh, you want to know the phone's call status? That's easy. Open the dialer and ..."
Yep. That's definitely better than ChaCha.

ST-Ericsson, a joint venture of STMicroelectronics and Ericsson, this morning announced it will launch a cost savings plan to achieve about $120 million of annualized savings by the end of 2012. The company, which develops a range of mobile platforms and wireless semiconductor solutions, said the plan includes a workforce review that may affect up to 500 employees. ST-Ericsson, which says more than 4 billion phones have been built using its products and technologies to date, is launching the cost-cutting plan due to "recent changes in the business environment and reduced demand for legacy products at certain customers".
